Grading Policy:

Professionalism Grade: 30%

  • Professionalism - Respect and participation are mandatory.  Students should abide by the following expectations to receive a strong professionalism grade:

    • Punctuality - Students should arrive to class on time.  Any necessary trips to the bathroom should be taken care of before the class begins.

    • Attentiveness - Students should keep their head and eyes up during class.  Failure to stay awake and/or complete assigned classwork will result in grade deductions.

    • Contribution to Learning - Students should be asking/answering questions every day.  Correct and incorrect answers are welcome, as we can always learn from our mistakes!

    • Respect - Respect can be demonstrated in a variety of ways.  Examples include, raising your hand before speaking, addressing your brothers and teachers in a polite manner, and staying on task for the entire period.  

Homework: 20%

All assignments are posted on my school- supported website Complete your assignments prior to entering my classroom, since I will check them at the beginning of class.

Analytical Papers: 30%

You will be responsible for completing a several 2-3 page research papers on topics to be assigned later in the semester.

Tests: 20%

We will have tests throughout the semester. The final exam will be cumulative.  

A 100%- 95% A- 94%- 90%

B+ 89- 88 B 87- 85 B- 84- 80

C+ 79-78 C 77-75 C- 74-70

Attendance and Lateness Policy:

Come to class. On time. If for some reason you cannot come to class for an acceptable reason (sports competition, doctor appointment, etc), let me know beforehand.

What to Bring:

Bring multiple writing utensils, your school-approved device, a composition notebook, and folder.

Late Work Policy:

I will only accept late work arising from an excused absence. If a student is absent, he must turn in all missing assignments resulting from that absence immediately upon his return, or else receive no credit for them. All other forms of late work will not count for credit.

Class Conduct:

  • All students are expected to act respectfully towards their fellow students and to the teacher. The dress code is to be adhered to at all times.

  • No cell phones.

  • All students are expected to participate in class discussions and group discussions. All students are also expected to be prepared and on time for class. Being prepared means having done the assignment and/or readings required for the day as well as having whatever materials are needed to participate in the class.


Email is my preferred method of communication but my cell phone is provided as well. Feel free to contact me all year.

Honor Code:

Lying, cheating, and stealing are considered unacceptable violations of the Academic Honor Code and are subject to disciplinary action.

Lie:  a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.

Cheat:  to take an examination or test in a dishonest way, as by improper access to answers; to violate rules or regulations.

Steal:  to take (the academic property or work of another or others) without permission or right, especially secretly or by force.
